Ideally, if you time your A presses, you can make it to the top of the crevice quickly with 4 wallkicks, although beginners may find it easier to simply spam A and do short, quick wallkicks to make it up in 6-8 wallkicks without having to worry about timing the A presses correctly (although this is slightly slower). The longer you hold A for each wallkick, the more height you will get, but make sure not to hold it too long or you might have trouble pressing A again once you hit the next wall. Do your best not to get any first-frame wallkicks, as these can easily mess up your timing and cause you to bonk off the wall.
#CHAINDIVE SPEEDRUN SERIES#
As soon as you make contact with the inner wall, go neutral on the joystick and perform a series of wallkicks to make it up the crevice. Having the correct angle is very important, and a good visual cue is to look at one of the dark blotches on the ground and align yourself with it (circled in image). Angle yourself so you are facing inward, towards the wall to your right (see image), and long jump into the small crevice in the wall.

Line yourself up using the blotches in the ground as a visual cue, and longjump into the crevice so that you can wallkick your way to the top. After making it up the slope, press C-right and run towards the Big Steelies (iron balls). As soon as you start sliding, press and hold A to get off the gray slope and jump up onto the brown pathway. Do 2 or 3 slopekicks, and then turn to the left, so that Mario begins to slide on his butt. If you have too much speed when you press B, you will dive, and slide down the slope. Once you start to lose your speed running up the slope, press B to slope kick for extra distance. Long jump (and continue to hold A) directly into the slope and start running up it.
